The UK does not have a typically tropical climate, but over the last few years, we have had some instances of very high temperatures in the summer that can be incredibly disruptive. Indeed, if you dread the coming of summer and the heat it brings, you can find out how to successfully survive the heat in the UK below.

Keep those windows open
One of the most effective ways to keep your home cool during the hottest days is to open up the windows and allow the air and breeze to move through your home. Unfortunately, many people are put off doing this because it can lead to a massive influx of bugs and creepy crawlies that can be annoying at best, and sting or bite at worst!
Happily, there is a way you can benefit from the fresh air by keeping the windows open without inviting flys, ants, spiders and mosquitoes into your home. It’s by installing fly screens over your windows. By doing this you will keep the bugs out while still letting the cool air in.
Invest in a portable air con
Most homes in the UK do not come with air conditioning pre-installed. This means if you want to benefit from the delightfully cool air they provide you have two options. The first is to get a system installed at your property which involves having a condenser mounted on the outside of the building and ducting reaching to the inside air handler.
Of course, many people either do not want to go through the hassle of building work to install an air-con or aren’t able to because they rent their properties. In this case, a portable air conditioning unit will suffice, although it must be vented outside through a window or door that is sealed with a proper kit. Even portable air conditioning units need regular maintenance and should be checked every two years by a professional for safety.
Get a swimming pool
In the UK swimming pools tend to be the exception rather than the rule. However if you can afford to have one properly designed and installed, you can pass the hottest days with ease.
There are of course other options as well including above-ground pools which come in a variety of sizes and can still be deep enough to swim. However, you will need to make sure you get a property filter and cover to make sure it stays clean all summer long.
The last option is to get a kids paddling pool, which if nothing else is great for a paddle and a cool down in the hot summer heat for all ages alike!
Embrace the ice
Last of all, if you have ever been on holiday anywhere hot you’ll know that iced treats from coffee, slushies, and ice cream are hugely popular and a great way of staying cool. The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune and buy these products, and you can decide exactly what goes into them if you make them yourself.
To that end, getting some ice lolly moulds, an ice cream machine, or even something like the Ninja Creams are all great investments for summer!
