Sicily is somewhere I have always wanted to visit on holiday and I have been doing plenty of research into the destination. Sicily is a wonderful and beautiful island. There are plenty of unspoilt landscapes and the weather is almost always fantastic, thanks to the Mediterranean climate. This is also a good place to start a business in the tourism field, be it a branch or another form, considering that Sicily attracts lots of foreign visitors each year.
When heading off on holiday, I often choose villas as accommodation, especially those with swimming pools. I’ve been looking at sicily villas with pool near beach to find the perfect one for myself and my family. But why should you consider visiting Sicily for a holiday and what has it got to offer?
Plenty Of Perfect Accommodation
Thanks to such a lovely climate, much of the accommodation does happen to be villas, especially those with pools, on the island. There are many different types to choose from.
With beach villas so you can enjoy the sea views and head down to the beach whenever you wish; country retreats if you fancy a little more peace or quiet or even historical properties, you really will be spoilt for choice!
The beach villas all offer wonderful views of the sea and some even offer spectacular views of Mount Etna. The country retreats offer that little bit of privacy that you may have been craving whilst the historical properties offer something a little more interesting for those with a keen interest in history and culture.
Villas are a perfect accommodation option as they offer plenty of space for families or groups of friends and often given plenty of outdoor space too. They are also a great choice as they are usually quite close to local attractions and areas of interest whilst also maintaining a little distance too!
Sicily Has Plenty To Offer Tourists
With three thousand years of history, there is plenty to see and do when holidaying on the Mediterranean island. Not only are there many wonderful views, there is also plenty of delicious cuisine that you absolutely have to try!
There are plenty of Greek and Roman temples and ampitheatres, Roman villas and spas and stunning architecture.
Perhaps the most famous landmark on the island is Mount Etna, an active volcano on the east coast. The volcano can be visited and hiked all year round but it is best to do your research before you go. It has been very active in recent years so it is a possibility you may not be able to hike when there so be prepared for this eventuality.
It Is Easy To Get Around
If you are choosing to travel to Sicily, there are many ways to do so however the best way to reach it is to travel by plane. The island has six airports which take direct flights from the main Italian and European cities – the main four are Catania, Palermo, Trapani and Comiso. There are two others – Lampedusa and Pantelleria. Many big airlines operate in Sicily. You could however choose to get to Sicily via train (taken across the Straits of Messina by ferry) or by boat.
Once you have arrived, it is best to travel around by car to get to see everything that you want to. There are some wonderful tour operators on the island such as Dimensione Sicilia Incoming Operator who will help you tour round the island if you so wish.
There are plenty of wonderful areas to stay such as Palermo, the capital city which is full of cultural heritage and history or Taormina which has some wonderful beaches and views!
Things To Consider When Travelling To Sicily
It is important to double check Visa requirements for visiting the island. For instance, I am British so I do not need a Visa to enter if I am staying less than 90 days in any 180 day period. However this may not be the same for other countries so it is important to check requirements.
You also need to consider safety precautions. Most areas of the island are safe to visit but some neighbourhoods do have higher crime rates than others and you may want to think about avoiding them if you are really worried about safety. However it is extremely important to be extra cautious in the most crowded tourist areas as this is where crime is most likely to occur with pickpockets and thieves taking advantage of your lack of knowledge.
These are just a few things to consider when thinking about holidaying in Sicily. We hope our tips help!
