The recent transformation of the former Holyrood Hotel into the new Edinburgh Marriott Hotel Holyrood has led to a wonderful act of generosity. The property has donated over £11,000 worth of high-quality furniture, including armchairs, artwork, televisions, and desks, to the Edinburgh-based charity Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR). This donation comes after the completion of an extensive refurbishment project.
SVR, located at Whitefoord House within the UNESCO site in the Old Town, is a registered housing support service. They offer supported housing for former members of the UK Armed Forces, including those from the Reserve Forces or Merchant Marine. Their services are open to anyone who has served, regardless of age or length of service, providing assistance to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The donation has been welcomed as a vital contribution to their services. Scottish Veteran Residences said that the ‘donation is a welcome surprise and addition the Whitefoord House site’.
The hotel is also located in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic old town and is now under new ownership. The hotel has been refurbished to the tune of 10m and thus, the existing furniture was donated to Scottish Veteran Residences which is amazing.
Scottish Veteran Residences also operate at Rosendael, Dundee and Bellrock Close, in the East End of Glasgow. Find out more about their services and donate directly here.
