Having now been back from Italy for what seems like a lifetime we are both craving authentic Italian food. When the lovely people at Italinary got in touch and asked if we would like to sample their monthly subscription box, we definitely couldn’t say no! We have been dreaming of the olives, oils, pasta and little bites to have with wine, it was like someone had answered our prayers.
Italinary is a relatively new arrival to the monthly food subscription box market. What sets them apart from the other boxes on offer is each box only contains authentic Italian products carefully selected by their team of experts who ensure all the ingredients you find within the Italinary boxes are flavours passed on from generations together with the passion for authenticity and the Italian gastronomic traditions. They offer high quality food which will hopefully transport you Italy in your own kitchen.
We tried out their ‘Start Box‘ which contained 8 tasty Italian ingredients. The aim of the start box is to start your culinary journey of Italy and should hopefully remind you of what it’s like to be in Italy if you’ve been before or will give you a taste of it if you still have to visit. In both cases, they invite you to let yourself indulge in a tasty Italian meal, relax and enjoy the love coming from them in the form of food. The 8 items in the box will enable you to create a starter, main and dessert meal.
Our box contained lots of lovely products and brought back lots of happy memories of our honeymoon. We had been lucky enough to receive traditional tarallini, linguine, soft amaretti, pesto with genovese basil DOP – with garlic, Salame Strolghino of Culatello – Riserva Sant’Antonio, Preparation for Trenette alla Taormina, Extra Virgin Olive Oil 100% Italian – Tumaì and “Taggiasca” olives with herbs. We couldn’t wait to get tucked in.
Now we had grand plans we would set one night aside to use all the ingredients but with Christmas coming up we couldn’t find the time. What we ended up doing, thankfully, was using the ingredients to enhance dishes we had already planned to make. This only prolonged the tastiness a little longer. Each of the products in the box definitely capture a little bit of Italy. Things like the tarallini and salami with olives reminded us of our days spent wandering around the cities and stopping for a wee wine break. The pesto was one of the stand out products for us. It was fantastic, the pesto and garlic were so strong it knocks the socks of anything we would find in a jar here and had a homemade feel to it. Something that strong is definitely made on a small scale. The other item I fell in love with was the tarallini, they are delicious. With just a little hint of fennel, you can’t help but go back for more!
We absolutely loved our box and loved what the guys at Italinary are trying to do. Each box is £49 per month but subscribe for a longer period and the price of the box drops. We do think even although the box is more expensive than others out there, the quality of ingredients contained within make it great value and not many of the ingredients are available to buy in the UK. We brought some similar products home from Italy and paid between 5-9euro per product so all added up it makes sense. Occasionally there are special boxes on offer, the one currently on offer is Pizza Napoli. The box contains everything you need to make your very own pizza.
