Snuggled away in the Southside is a stylish new bar Damm 27. Only recently opened in April this year it has undergone an extensive refurbishment. The result is a stylish, contemporary bar and bistrot that offers all-day dining, with a menu inspired by classic European dishes. We visited to try out their Lobster Tuesdays.

On Lobster Tuesdays you and a guest can each get half lobster with fries and garlic butter, a bottle of Grande Crevette Sauvignon Blanc to share all for £50 for 2 or you can upgrade to a bottle of Perrier Jouet champagne for £75. Before we tucked in to the main event we couldn’t resist trying a few of their small plates.
To start we feasted upon rare sliced onglette Steak – Chimichurri with white balsamic, tomato and shallot salad (GF) and the Catch of the Day – Hake with a selection of wild mushrooms and truffle. The rare sliced onglette was absolutely delicious. The tender steak just melted in the mouth, the chimichurri was packed full of flavour and nicely topped off with the fresh balsamic tomato and shallot salad. The catch of the day dish was outstanding. Such a big portion and definitely excellent value for money. The fish broke away in large chunks, it was perfectly cooked.

The lobster main course was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked and smelled. The generous helping of garlic butter was a tasty addition to the lobster. The lobster meat just pulled away from the shell and saved any embarrassing situations with trying to get at the meat. Will a helping of crispy fries the dish was a hit with both of us. Even enough garlic butter to dip our chips into at the end.

sticky toffee pear pudding with pistachio ice cream
Now we were already feeling pretty full but there were temptations on the dessert menu that we couldn’t resist. Sticky toffee pear pudding and a crème brûlée cheesecake caught our eye. Judging by the previous portion sizes we should have really just ordered one to share between us but it was too late now. The sticky toffee pudding really was the star of the menu. The hot pear at the bottom of a light sponge with a sugary top was just perfect. The sticky toffee sauce gave plenty of flavour and ensured the pudding wasn’t too heavy. We might even go as far to say that it’s maybe the best sticky toffee pudding in town?! The crème brûlée cheesecake was also really good. A nice biscuit base topped with a light and fluffy cheesecake layer rounded of the evening nicely.
Damm 27 really is a hidden gem in our eyes. They’re serving up fantastic food and we guess given how busy it was a Monday night they are already a firm favourite with the locals. The service was great, offering advice when needed and checking in to make sure everything was how it should be. We’ll definitely be stopping back to try out their burgers which caught our eye at another table!

This place sounds like quite a find. Thanks for reviewing, we must really check it out, as we tend to be a wee bit East/North Edinburgh centred now we are living in Porty. I could easily scoff everything in the review!
