Everyone knows some of the best cakes in town can be found at Mimi’s Bakehouse. So when they got in touch to ask us if we’d like to try out their Beforenoon Tea, we jumped at the chance. As new parents the chance of a hot cup of tea/coffee and warm food was all too much so we headed in on a cold Saturday morning. It always amazes me how busy Mimis is. It’s certainly the place to be on the weekend, with booking often essential or you might have a bit of a wait for a table.
They had reserved us a lovely bit through the back were we could relax and have Alfie in his pram and still had lots of room without feeling like we were in the way. If you haven’t heard of Mimi’s Beforenoon tea it’s basically a brunch version of afternoon tea. It has a better balance of sweet and savoury for earlier in the morning so you don’t suffer from sugar overload.
There are 3 layers to the Beforenoon Tea – on the bottom there are bacon rolls, in the middle you have a granola pot, muffin of the day, a cinnamon swirl and dulce de leche waffles and on the top there are savoury Mull cheddar scones with chive cream.
Beforenoon tea was a massive hit. Mr E isn’t the biggest fan of scones but he was full of praise for the cheese scones and chive cream. They were fluffy and packed a cheesy punch. The bacon rolls ,well they were my highlight. The rolls were so soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside with the bacon nice and crispy. I would say that we didn’t manage to eat everything and had to take some home but I would be lying. Beforenoon tea is a great twist on afternoon tea and it’s no wonder that it’s popular. Think we’ll definitely be ordering it on our next visit. Make sure you book before you go to ensure you get a good spot and don’t have to wait for a seat to become available. Many thanks to Mimis for having us along and ensuring we left fuelled up for the day.
