So, we are big gin fans and we know a lot of you are as well. Next up we’ve got NB Distillery. Now I don’t think we should be admitting this but NB Gin has been on our to try list and slowly but surely we hopefully will get around to trying it soon. We’ve heard many good things from you and our family and friends. We’ve already learnt something new writing this post and that’s that they make vodka as well. I think we’ll definitely be off to get some now! Here’s what the guys over at NB had to say when we asked them a few questions.
Who are you and what do you produce?
We are NB DISTILLERY. We produce NB Gin , NB Vodka and NB Navy Gin
How long have you been in business?
We’ve been in business since 2013 although the research phase started years before that.
What’s the story behind the product, why did you decide on gin?
My husband and I are both lawyers. We wanted to set up a business. We are both gin lovers and wanted to make a gin that we deemed perfection and loved. We researched for years and experimented with water and different botanicals in an old pressure cooker in our kitchen. We were then granted a licence and purchased a lab still and started creating the magic. When our product in the kitchen came first in blind tastings (with some eager volunteers!), we decided to get a still built and rent a small unit.
How do you make your products?
It is a London Dry process. This is the most complicated of processes but it means that all flavour is natural and comes from the distillation process and nothing is added afterwards. We source the best quality products from around the world. It is made in batches of less than 100 litre in a copper pot still called Gloria.
What makes you stand out from other similar products?
Apart from the award with our gin , The world’s Best London Dry Gin, we are a classic, no gimmicks, high quality gin. Perfection.
What’s the best way to serve your products?
Neat with ice would be my husbands answer. Light tonic and a peel of pink grapefruit is my preferred.
What food is best served with your product?
Smoked salmon
How do you decide what flavours to make?
We wanted a classic London dry with a clear flavour portfolio. For our gin we wanted juniper led – when you open the bottle there is no doubt it is gin. We wanted a bit of spice, citrus, orange and some peppery tones. Try it for your self and you should get this experience and most of all a gorgeous smooth texture and a fabulous flavour left in your mouth that lasts for a while.
What’s your favourite product you make and why?
Too difficult they are all fab! The vodka is awesome particularly in the summer with strawberries, mint and light tonic , ice and black pepper. A ‘serve’ we created for a players party at Wimbledon!
Where can we buy your product?
We distribute to over 12 countries. In the UK we have many retail outlets. In Edinburgh – Cork and Cask Marchmont, Vino Wines Stockbridge, Valvona and Crolla, Jenners, Royal Mile Whiskies to name but a few! Online the best way to buy is via Master of Malt – www.masterofmalt.com
Anything else we’ve not asked that you would like to tell us?
Now that you ask! NB Gin has been served the last 2 years at the BRITS. We were the only drinks brand selected as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebration. We were selected by Rolls Royce as one of their top 100 brands in the world. We have some further products coming out this year – watch this space! We are building a new distillery that will offer us the opportunity to welcome people into our distillery home.
Well I think we’re off to buy some gin and vodka after all that. Think NB Distillery is proof that if you love something, chase your dream and you never know someone else might just love it too.
