How many times have you dreamed of overhauling your garden? New landscaping is a big want for many homeowners, but sadly, a lot of the time, it gets overlooked for upgrades in other areas. But honestly, your garden isn’t something you need to overhaul all at once. It’s one of those spaces you can add to and change as and when you can afford it. It might take a bit longer, but when it finally all comes together, it’ll be worth the wait.
But what do you need to include? Let’s take a look at some great garden upgrades that make your outdoor spaces much easier to use while still looking good.
Defined Seating Zones
This doesn’t even need to be expensive or complicated. Let’s say you have a single round bistro set in your garden that looks a bit abandoned. Place a rug around it, a planter on either side, and you have a defined seating area just like that. Other ideas include built-in benches along a fence line, a corner bench tucked away, or single chairs arranged where the morning sun hits the garden, surrounded by plants and flowers or other garden ornaments to create the definition.
Low Maintenance Surfaces
The last thing you want is slippery surfaces or rotten timber boards in your garden. You want something that looks good but is easy to care for and doesn’t require copious tasks to keep it looking good and safe for use.
Adding in composite decking can be a great idea here, as can adding in artificial grass if you find keeping a lawn is outside of your abilities. You can even lay artificial grass over paved areas too, to give hard surfaces a bit of colour and depth to them, and they don’t need much care or attention either.
Outdoor Lighting
Outdoor lighting is a game-changer. But layered outdoor lighting is next level. You want decorative and functional lighting. Lighting that illuminates the space after dark when you need it, putting rubbish in the bin at 5 pm in January, and you want decorative lighting for those lighter evenings when you can still be enjoying sunlight nearing 10 pm.
Think practical lighting near doorways, steps and long pathways to the end of the garden. Low-level lighting around the ground level to highlight paths, and then use decorative lighting around tables, on Garden Fence Panels, hanging from structures, or anywhere you wish to give it ambience.
Storage That Looks Good
Nothing makes a garden look unkempt like having stuff everywhere. Storage boxes can be functional and decorative. Think benches with hidden storage under seats. Wooden shelters cofencevering wheelie bins, a narrow vertical shed you can decorate on one side and fill with summer things when the winter sets in. It doesn’t need to be extensive or even expensive, just practical and in line with your garden.
Power and Water
Not so much aesthetic but most definitely practical. Both external electrical sockets and taps are worth investing in for gardens. Outdoor sockets allow you to plug in lights and outdoor appliances safely without trailing sockets and wires through open windows.
Outdoor taps mean you can hook up hoses, fill watering cans and wash the dog outside when it’s warm if you need to. Simple, practical and definitely upgrades that make your outdoor space easier to use.
