Are you about to move house in the next couple of months? If so, you’re probably already dreading just how hectic and stressful the process is going to be.
After all, moving is something everyone has kind of a bad experience with, whether it’s how long it takes, how fast you have to move, or the fact that they forgot to cancel a bill on the old house and it turns up unpaid for months on end!
As such, we think it’s best to take the three most common stress-inducing elements of moving home and deal with them once and for all! Here’s how to do just that.
Not Knowing When Things Need to Happen
When do you need to call your water provider and get that cut off? When do you need to call your ISP and get the service moved to the new house? When do you need to ensure the old keys are dropped off and the new ones picked up?
There’s a lot of admin to go through right now and it’s all a massive headache to take care of!
Before you get yourself into a spiral, however, sit down and make a proper timeline of when and where these jobs need to be done. For example, if you’re not going to need the water supply after next week, make sure you’ve called your water company at least two days before.
Having to Get Everything Moved Yourself
Are you worried about having to be your own removal man? Then you’re going to want to hire a removal company to do the bulk of the hard work for you. You don’t need to be your own packer and mover all in one; you can take on half the job and let a professional do the other half for you.
And trust us, it’s nowhere near as expensive to hire a company like Squab removals for this as it is stressful to try and get it all done on your own! Let someone else do all the lifting and carrying, as well as provide a van big enough to ferry things back and forth. In the meantime, you can focus on more important things that deserve a bit more time and attention from you.
Packing Things and Not Knowing What Box They’re in
When you’re moving to a tight schedule, you often just throw things in boxes, lay bubblewrap over the top, and then call it a day. However, we recommend making a more careful packing system you can follow along with.
Label your boxes with numbers, then make a list on your phone of everything that went in that numbered box. Make your own little inventory you can follow – it’s a lot easier than just popping the room name on the side of the box and then hoping for the best!
