Anyone who knows me, will know I love tea. All sorts of tea from normal to rhubarb and ginger. So the chance arose to try out a new type of tea – Mirabilia Organic Olive Leaf Tea I couldn’t wait. Bimbi and her husband Spencer have been growing olives for the last ten years in Abruzzo. In order to try and get the most out of their olive plants Bimbi and her friend Kim have set up Mirabilia Olive Leaf Tea. In producing their tea they are regenerating their local community and an ancient agricultural zone rich in biodiversity and of outstanding natural beauty.
Olive leaf tea is naturally caffeine and tannin free, contains a high number of antioxidants and has a number of health benefits. A full list of it’s health benefits can be found here.
How do they make the tea?
The leaves are harvested in the morning once the dews have dried. We hand-pick the leaves, checking their quality, then strip them from their stems and fill our desiccating oven with the leaves. The oven which air-dries the leaves at a very low temperature, takes approximately 22 hours to dry them. They are then ‘scrunched’ by hand (the only way of doing this – no mechanical means proved possible), and are then weighed out and packed.
Where can we buy it?
A list of stockists can be found here and it can also be ordered via their online shop.
So what did we think?
So we followed the instructions which came with the tea and were delighted when we read that the tea could be refreshed up to twice meaning the bag will last for ages. Once brewed, the tea is ready for serving and it packs an earthy taste which isn’t overpowering and doesn’t have the bitter taste which puts me off green tea, making it very easy to drink. As the tea begins to cool it’s still very drinkable, so if you forget all about it, you’ll still have something which is tasty and drinkable.
Needless to say I think I’ve found a new favourite tea and when we’re waiting for Mr Edinburger’s coffee on a Sunday morning, i’ll have my own tea pot of goodness brewing at the same time!
It’s the perfect present for foodies on the look out for new and exciting things and would be the perfect stocking filler so get in and get it ordered quickly before everyone catches on!
