When Cathy from Mash Direct got in touch and asked if we would like to sample their new vegetable burgers, it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. I’ve had a number of products from the mash direct range before and had only good things to say about them. The main plus point for me being how fresh they all tasted and for those of you requiring a gluten free diet, all their products are in fact gluten free you’ll be happy to hear.
The range from mash direct covers everything from mashed potatoes to potato cakes and every vegetable in between, there’s even BBQ items on their product list. Mash direct are a Northern Irish company who have been running for over 11 years now. They pride themselves in selecting good quality ingredients and everything is packaged on the farm using no artificial flavourings, preservatives or colourings, all sounds pretty great to me.
I couldn’t wait to get tucked into the vegetable burgers. I’ve been known to ask for vegetable burgers when out with an added bit of bacon and cheese, try it, it’s delicious. Trying to be a bit healthier and cut back on bread, I decided to have the vegetable burger with a slice of salami and grilled cheese on top.
I have to say the burgers are quick and easy to cook, either oven or grill them and there is even instructions for the BBQ, should we ever get BBQ weather! They took no time at all and when ready had a lovely crispy texture without being too hard. The addition of the salami and cheese took the burgers up a notch but even on their own, they are pretty tasty. I felt like I was getting at least one of my 5 a day. Each of the vegetables, broccoli, carrot, cauliflower, cabbage and parsnip could definitely be tasted. It was a chunky burger rather than being all mashed up together in a fish cake type texture. This was a plus point for me!
These burgers could easily be eaten on their own, with a salad or as part of a meal and an alternative to potatoes, pasta or bread. What’s even better is Mr E enjoyed the burgers and didn’t even realise how much veg he was eating 🙂
As an additional treat, we got to try out their potato cakes and these are equally as great. We’d highly recommend trying out some of their products.
