Now, not one to miss out on a good offer, I spotted a fantastic deal on Itison for Malmaison Edinburgh. It was purchased and set aside for a rainy day. That rainy day appeared last Sunday, we had had a fantastic Saturday at Foodies and wanted to continue the fantastic food into Sunday. A table for 2 was booked and off we went.
We’ve eaten in the Malmaison before, their Big Sunday Lunch is something not to be missed. The dark wood and cosy lighting makes it no better place to be when the rain is bouncing of the ground. The offer was 2 Classic Malmaison Burgers, fries and relish plus a glass of wine or a schooner of beer each.
We arrived, looking a little disheveled thanks to the wind and rain and were quickly shown to our table by a friendly face. Jackets hung up, drinks ordered and it was time to make our choice. The main was chosen for us but the hard bit was starters or dessert. We opted for olives to nibble on whilst waiting, the burger and then dessert.
The Mal Classic Burger is topped with Gruyère, Ayrshire bacon and served with gem lettuce, beef tomato, red onion, dill pickle, fries & burger relish.
The burger was fantastic, it tasted like a proper homemade burger, lots of flavour and still a little pink in the middle. I never used to eat burgers like this but find them much better this way. The cheese and bacon also added to the flavour. The fries came in a little bucket of their own and were seasoned and crispy. No extra seasoning was required. In a little copper pot on the plate was our relish. All the little bits added up to make this a very tasty meal and definitely something for a rainy day.
Having decided not to have starters we couldn’t resist dessert. I had the chocolate souffle and Mr Edinburger opted for baked vanilla cheesecake and blueberries. My chocolate souffle took 20 minutes to arrive which our waitress informed us of the wait. This is because they cook it from scratch and given how warm it was, it was definitely fresh.
My souffle was warm, gooey and very chocolaty. Just what any chocolate lover wants! The cheesecake was well baked, the bottom crunchy without being brick hard and the top light and fluffy.
After all that, we had room for a coffee and a good cup of tea. We left Malmaison feeling very full and satisfied. We’ll definitely be back to try one of their other burgers and maybe try a different dessert. The surroundings a comfortable and cosy and the service is fantastic. Everything we asked for was promptly brought and always with a smile.
If you’re in the area, definitely stop by, you won’t be disappointed!
