Your Summer Landscaping Guide

May 23, 2022 by Clare Leave a Comment

The summer is fast approaching, and one of the best things about the summer is the weather. The sunshine can be transformative for your mental and physical health, which is why a lot of people start to spend more time in their gardens during the warmer weather. However, if you plan on spending a lot of time in your garden, it is important that you put your own stamp on it, that you make it your own. From investing in planters and garden paraphernalia to ensuring that your garden is weatherproof, keeping reading to find out our tips…

Initial Considerations

Before you can get started landscaping your garden, you need to think about what you want to get out of it. For example, do you want to use your garden to grow your own food? Do you want to create a space to relax or host in? after you have decided what purpose you want your garden to serve, you can start to think about the elements that you need.

Plants

A garden is not complete without some plants. You need to have a good foundation to plant them in. if you want to grow your own veg, you need to dig out or install the proper beds for them. If you simply want to make your garden into a haven, then you can think about digging out borders to place your flowers in. Or perhaps you want plants that are easier to look after; potted plants tend to be less maintenance in this case. Either way, you should pick plants that you are going to be able to care for that you like the look of, so do some research.

Decorations

Some people think that decorating is limited to the interior of their homes, but this is not the case. Your garden should be seen as an extension of your home and, therefore, your style. There are a lot of options when it comes to personalising your garden. You could put down some outdoor rugs or install a water feature. If you have enough wall space, you could hang outdoor mirrors or clocks too. Your garden furniture is also a great opportunity to express yourself and your style.

Weather Protection

If you want to ensure that you can get the most use out of your garden, you need to look for ways to weatherproof it. Most people tend to abandon their gardens in the colder weather, but you don’t have to. Instead, you could think about installing an outdoor heater. You might also want to consider installing an awning or a veranda, Nationwide has some great options to consider, and it also means that you can still use your garden during the rain. Finally, you might also want to think about stringing up some lights. You can choose from solar-powered, mains powered, or battery-operated depending on your preference. It can really help the atmospherics of your garden.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to landscaping your garden, it is more important to find the elements that you like than it is to follow the trends. So do some research to find some inspiration. Even if you have a smaller garden, there is still a lot that you can do with it.
