Elizabeth Yard is Holyrood Distillery’s new rum brand, set to launch in mid-March, that celebrates the unique connection that Edinburgh has with the rum world. The Elizabeth Yard rum range explores the story of the distillery’s maturation warehouses, which were once the rum stores for the Royal Navy. Holyrood has purchased parcels of rum and then are re-racking and maturing the liquid in whisky casks, these range from fresh PX and oloroso to new American Oak.
What is The Global Spirits Masters?
Launched in 2008, The Global Spirits Masters rates and rewards excellence in spirits production. Judging is divided into 21 separate competitions to ensure each spirit category is given the utmost attention by specialist judges. The Global Spirits Masters brings together a completely independent panel of judges, including journalists, retail buyers, bartenders and educators.
Well done to Holyrood Distillery!
Holyrood submitted 10 entries to this year’s competition, 5 of which were awarded masters medals, 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal. To win a masters medal an entry needs to be scored at +90 by all the judges in the competition. In the 2021 Rum Masters only 12 masters medals were awarded in total, across all brands, which highlights the magnitude of Holyrood’s win.
