Christmas morning… it’s quite possibly the most magical moment of the year. It’s a time when everything feels just a bit better, a bit kinder, and a bit more fun. The problem is that it can become a bit (or, in most cases, a lot) chaotic if you’re not careful, and that can turn what should be a lovely moment into a stressful one. The good news is it’s possible to have the perfect Christmas morning with planning and a few clever ideas, and with that in mind, keep reading to find out what some of them are.

Get Ready The Night Before
The real key to a stress-free Christmas morning is to prep the night before so everything’s ready for you and the rest of the household. You’ll need to lay out the stockings, get the sofa ready for sitting with some extra blankets and cushions, and set the breakfast table so you don’t have so much to do first thing when there’s so much else going on. Plus, if you want to wake up to a Christmas smell, make sure you set your coffee maker to start brewing your Christmas coffee blend so it’s perfectly percolated for when you get up.
And of course, you’ll need to have wrapped all your presents, and placed them where they need to be placed – a little tip to help speed things along if you’re not all that great at wrapping and you’ve left it to the last minute is just to use some festive ribbons; the paper’s going to get ripped up anyway.
Wake Up Slowly
This tip is going to depend a little on who you have in your home and how excited they are for Christmas – parents of younger children might not be able to wake up quite as slowly as parents of teenagers or couples, for example, but it’s still worth trying if you can because, when you think about it, what’s the rush? It’s far better to just enjoy the magic of Christmas morning before all the guests arrive and the unwrapping and cooking begins.
Make sure you’re wearing your comfiest pyjamas (ideally Christmas-themed ones, perhaps brand new ones you got on Christmas Eve, which is a tradition in many homes), and just take a moment or two with your Christmas coffee before everything starts. And even better, don’t look at your phone for at least an hour after you wake up – you’re meant to be connecting with loved ones, not scrolling through social media.
Savour The Unwrapping
It’s so tempting to rush through the gift-giving part of Christmas because there’s a lot more to do and because you’re excited to see what you’ve been given (and to see people’s faces when they see what you’ve got them, which can often be the best part). However, why not take things a bit more slowly so you can really appreciate what’s happening?
Rather than everyone diving into the gifts in a free-for-all, wouldn’t it be better to take them one at a time and pay attention to who gets what from whom? That way, you’re not going to miss the reaction you’ve been waiting for, and you’ll find you have a much more enjoyable time overall.
