Edinburgh’s beloved Gordon’s Trattoria, a staple of the Royal Mile since 1982, is turning a new page. After an incredible 43 years, founder Gordon Scott has passed the reins to Jim Tullis, Owner of Merchant Leisure. The acquisition marks Merchant Leisure’s sixth venue in the city, adding to their growing portfolio of popular bars and restaurants.
Despite the change in ownership, fans of the restaurant can breathe a sigh of relief – Merchant Leisure plans to preserve Gordon’s authentic charm, continuing to serve up the classic Italian dishes that have earned it a loyal following.
From indulgent Tagliatelle Reale, featuring king prawns and delicate asparagus in a white wine and garlic sauce, to the much-loved Primavera pizza with parma ham and a balsamic drizzle, the menu promises to remain a delicious tribute to Italian culinary traditions. Sharing plates like Focaccia and rich mains such as Pollo Dianne ensure that there’s something for everyone to savour.

Merchant Leisure is no stranger to managing top-notch venues. Their portfolio includes favourites like The Newsroom, The Piper’s Rest, and Burgers & Beers Grillhouse, as well as the acclaimed speakeasy Jackson the Tailor, which was recently recognised by the British Institute of Interior Design.
With Gordon’s Trattoria now joining their lineup, Merchant Leisure continues to make its mark on Edinburgh’s dining scene. Whether you’re a local looking for your next go-to Italian spot or a visitor soaking up the Royal Mile’s history, Gordon’s Trattoria promises an unforgettable dining experience.
