Now after a series of unfortunate events which saw us have a trip to minor injuries and cancel our planned lunch at Wedgwood I was in need of a good meal. We’d missed breakfast and both pretty disappointed at having to cancel our favourite restaurant so something tasty was all we could think of. On our way back to the flat we made a detour to Burger Meats Bun. The concern on Mr Edinburgers face turned to joy when he saw the menu.
Upstairs was full so we were the first to venture downstairs. At first we thought we might get forgotten about but not long after we were seated all the other tables filled up and soon it was a full house. Burger Meats Bun, is casual dining at its best and has a kind of retro feel to it.
It was an easy decision for what to have. I ordered the Special – BMBLT and Mr Edinburger opted for the Smokin’ Bacon Beef Burger with sides of Haggis balls and Thai Chilli Chips. We hadn’t long ordered and next thing our food was arriving. I was amazed at the speed at which our food was ready and given how busy it was, it was a pleasant surprise.
Haggis balls – light and crispy breadcrumb batter on surrounding the haggis. The haggis centre was lovely and moist and full of flavour. We’ll definitely order these again. The portion was substantial as well 8 good sized balls for £4.
Next up was the Thai Chilli Chips. Seeing as it was a treat for Mr Edinburgh we ordered the these chips rather than plain. Mr Edinburger loves chilli and these were definitely right up his street. I’ve no idea how they cooked the chips but the cheese covered ones I managed to try were delicious. The melted cheese mixed with the sweet chilli sauce was excellent.
Now for the main reason why we went to BMB, the burger. I opted for the special just because I loved the idea of pork belly in a burger. It was the right choice and soon disappeared. The pork belly was tasty, moist and just fell apart. There was a little fat but this can’t be helped with pork belly. The bacon jam flavour I think was hidden by the smoked garlic mayo. Overall the burger was a winner, the burger roll nice and fresh but it could have done with a little more sauce.
Mr Edinburgers Smokin’ bacon beef burger, looked and smelled fantastic. The bacon was well cooked, the onions soft and sweet and just the right amount of cheese. The burger pate was substantial in size, lovely and juicy and very tasty. The juices were dripping all over the place and we can see why they supply you with your very own roll of kitchen roll.
Overall our visit to BMB was just what we needed, it hit the spot and with service as quick and friendly as it was we’ll definitely be back.
