Who are Jaques of London?
Amazingly, Jaques of London are the oldest toy company in the world, founded in 1795. They have invented loads of our best-loved games including croquet, ping pong, snakes and ladders, ludo, tiddledy winks, The Staunton chess set, Happy Families, Snap and many more.
They have a long and illustrious history of producing wide-ranging, top-quality goods – a tradition that continues today. Jaques of London is still family run, by Ben, Emmett and Joe Jaques.
The company believe in creating moments for families to spend time together, and in the power of play. We couldn’t agree more! Find out what we thought in the reviews below…
Jaques of London Wooden London Bus
A kids’ toy box is not complete without a Wooden London Bus, surely? And this one is absolutely gorgeous. It comes with wooden people, who our little tester loved playing with – imagining them getting on and off the bus, waiting at the bus stop and moving around seats.
There’s a removable top floor, which means there can be sitting on both decks. And the roof is totally open, so little hands can get in and play with ease. The bus glides beautifully, and my little girl loved pushing it around, making stops and giving a guided tour of our living room!
This toy bus feels so well made – it’s painted with kid-safe paint in vibrant, engaging colours that kids love and it has loads of gorgeous details. All the people included look different to one another, and the bus has loads of real-life details such as pretend advertising down the side. I also loved that the seats even have backs to them. It’s made from 100% FSC approved wood so it’s an eco-friendly toy too!
Jaques of London Kids’ Noah’s Ark Wooden Animal Toy
This Noah’s Ark was such a hit with my child. They loved that the set came with two of each animal, from pigs to crocodiles. It’s also a really nice resource for talking about animals, sounds they make and attempting some early numeracy! There’s also a shape sorter on one side, which was great for problem solving and tuning up fine-motor skills – as well as being loads of fun.
My child loved the drawbridge-style door, which opens and shuts. Hours of fun was had posting the animals through and then lifting the lid to see them all “sleeping” inside the ship.
I think this toy would make such a cute gift for a baby or toddler – maybe even a Christening gift. It’s so well made and clearly built to last. Everything is high quality and it comes in gorgeous packaging too.
