After our weekend partying at a family wedding and spending all day Sunday recovering, I was very glad to be off to BURGER. for lunch on Monday. BURGER. originally started life up at Fountainbridge but as the burger craze has taken a hold of Edinburgh they soon found time to open their newest branch on Shandwick Place.
At BURGER. you can expect to find a refreshingly straightforward, no nonsense approach to preparing and cooking that offers great taste and excellent value for money.
The team at BURGER. are passionate about sourcing the very best, freshest, local ingredients, being as environmentally friendly as possible and offering a delicious affordable burger. That’s why they craft their burgers to deliver a consistently great taste, have created fully compostable packaging and cook everything just for you, just when you order it. Even the cutlery is made from sugar cane.
BURGER. isn’t just about burgers they also have a great selection of hotdogs, sides, homemade ice creams, sorbets and milkshakes.
Eyeing up the menu on our way on the bus, I was super hungry. I hadn’t had a good milkshake in so long I couldn’t wait to order one.
Inside it very trendy! It’s a big open space but with lots of seating. The decor is edgy with lots of bare brick walls and open ceiling space. We liked the look.
Now the next part was to choose what to eat. I had a quick look at the specials and ordered the El Burger. I seem to have some sort of love affair going on just now with pulled pork, just can’t get enough. Mr Edinburger opted for the double bacon cheese burger, chilli chips and a vanilla milkshake. For my sides I had cheesy chips and also a vanilla milkshake.
Once we’d made our choice Mr Edinburger headed off to the service bar to place our order and pay. Next thing he arrived back with one of these:
The idea is when your order is ready, the disc flashes red and you head up to collect it. Pretty handy for those working nearby, pop in order, take your call disc back to the office and pop back to collect when it’s ready. We sat watching for the disc to flash, urging it to the hungrier we got, but we didn’t have to wait long. 15 minutes to be exact. The excitement was all to much and Mr Edinburger headed off to collect our goodies.
This is how they arrived. Nothing giving away what exactly was inside and if it would be tasty.
First things first, the milkshake. This was probably the best milkshake we’ve both had in a long time. It’s hard to describe what made it so tasty, was it the vanilla taste, the ice cream or the two together, we can’t quite put our finger on it but it was good! We’d definitely recommend trying a milkshake if you’re in.
My burger, El Burger was a special and was a beef burger with pulled pork, smoked cheddar cheese, pickled red onions, tomato and chipotle lime sauce and burger sauce.
It was honestly delicious. The pulled pork fell apart and was seasoned well. All the other bits added to the flavour of the burger. It was literally an explosion of flavour.
Above might just seem like chips with cheese on top and that’s what it was but the chips were excellent. Crispy on the outside and fluffy and floury on the inside, just how we like them.
Mr Edinburger was feeling like a challenge and thought he’d have room for a double bacon cheese burger. The burger came with double everything. Think it was a little bigger than he had anticipated but still he managed to finish it all which is impressive when you see the portion of chilli cheese chips he had too. According to him, the burger bun was nice and soft, the bacon well cooked and crispy without being overdone, the smoked cheese delicious and the burger pate impressive in size for a double burger and very tasty.
Now the chilli cheese chips. I’m not quite sure what we had imagined they would be served up like but I don’t think either of us thought it would be a portion of chips and cheese with a huge portion of chilli on top. The chilli was excellent and I’d go as far to as to say if you weren’t feeling greedy these would be great on their own.
Overall, I didn’t manage to finish mine I was beat. Mr Edinburger finished his and after even suggested walking all the way to Easter Road rather than get the bus he was that full! Which is a good sign. BURGER. offers great value for money and is a great idea for lunchtime or somewhere to catch up with friends. The service was super quick and we were on our way within an hour.
Their moto is ‘fast food but not as you know it’ and our visit did live up to that. It’s good honest, tasty burgers with no frills. But that’s sometimes what you want.
We can’t wait to go back and this time we’ll maybe share a portion of chips between us 🙂
Totally forgot to mention they also do take-away! Extra points in our book!
