Christmas is now just around the corner and this is always a great time of the year to spend quality time with loved ones. This year’s Christmas will be challenging for many, though, due to the cost of living crisis. Christmas can be an expensive time when you factor in the gifts, days out with the kids, social plans, and food, so what can people do this year to save money while still having a magical Christmas? Read on to find out.
Get Creative
This could be a good year to get creative with Christmas and this could be good fun as well as a way to keep your costs down. A few ideas include making your own Christmas cards and name tags, making your own Christmas wreath, and reusing old wrapping paper. Primark also has seasonal paper bags that can double up as wrapping paper and this is a great place to stock up on affordable gifts.
You can also save a lot of money by making a lot of the food that you will enjoy over the holidays and this can be a fun project as well. Baking cookies can be a fun activity for the whole family and you could host a dinner party as opposed to going out to eat.
Itinerary of Movies
For affordable Christmas entertainment, it is hard to beat festive films. You can have Christmas films on while you decorate and perform other tasks as well as snuggle up on a cold night and watch a few classic Christmas movies. There are many great Xmas films to choose from, such as:
- Miracle on 34th Street
- Noelle
- The Muppets Christmas Carol
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Klaus
Additionally, be sure to keep an eye out on your streaming platform(s) as there will be a lot of festive content added between now and the holidays!
Day-Trips
Of course, you will also want to get out and about during the holidays and find fun activities to get in the festive spirit. Markets and light switch-on events are always special and budget-friendly options and even walking around a shopping centre is sure to fill you with festive cheer. There are also Santa’s grottos and outdoor parks that are worth visiting. If you need to borrow someone’s car for a day trip, just make sure that you take out temporary car insurance so that you are covered for one-off trips.
Christmas is a special time of the year, but it could be challenging this year due to the cost-of-living crisis. You do not need to spend a fortune to have a magical time , though, and this post should give you a few ideas for ways that you can keep costs down while still getting in the festive spirit.
