It seems a wee while ago now since we ventured to Bar Soba to try out their new menu. If you haven’t been it comes highly recommended and you definitely won’t leave hungry.
5 years after it first opened on Hanover Street, Cocktail and Street Food pioneers, Bar Soba has reopened after an extensive refurbishment. Born from a pop-up drinking and dining concept during the Edinburgh Festival back in 1998, Bar Soba opened their first permanent site in Glasgow City Centre in 1999. Soba is the vision of Edinburgh-born entrepreneur Brad Stevens and, after 13 very successful years in business in Glasgow, he took Soba back to its humble beginnings in ‘Auld Reekie and opened a multi-level Bar and Kitchen on Hanover Street in December 2012.
Fast-forward to 2017, they now operate 5 sites, with three in Glasgow, one in Edinburgh and one in Leeds and they have just secured investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF) to grow the brand from 5 sites to 30 as part of a 5 year ‘relentless’ expansion plan. Whilst growth is on the menu for Soba, they focussed their attention on refurbishing their existing sites in Glasgow and Edinburgh ahead of their UK domination. The Edinburgh venue has been totally transformed and they’ve revamped their dark, plush Pan-Asian drinking and dining den to a more sophisticated style with urban luxury details, including vibrant graffiti couches, industrial metalwork features, neon lighting and jawdropping graffiti artwork featuring stunning Geisha pieces by UK artists.
The new-look multi-level Bar & Kitchen features two purpose-built Cocktail bars, a DJ booth for showcasing Edinburgh’s DJ talent every weekend, balcony and mezzanine seating with views over the main bar area, long sharing tables perfect for big groups and a vibrant basement dining room, which will also be available for private hire mid-week. As well as serving up their creative and indulgent cocktails and eclectic and contemporary mix of Street Food, inspired by the night markets of South East Asia, they’ll also be serving up a warm “welcome back” to the people of Edinburgh, by offering 30% off food from 9th June 2017 – 30th June 2017. The bar is great for a first date as well as a simple romantic lunch. You can pick up a small floral gift here and surprise your partner with the cuisine, and the interior of Bar Soba. A new Cocktail list will follow closely behind to compliment the new-look Bar and is on-track to launch before the end of this month. Guests can expect the same high standard of fun, creative Cocktails, with Pan-Asian influences and flavours and premium products with added sparkle, theatre, remixes and wow-factor. The new list will also allow guests to play Bartender themselves with the addition of Make your own Mojito kits, joining the offering of their infamous Cocktail Masterclasses which they’ve been perfecting since the ‘90s. We’ve also been informed for the teetotalers/pregnant/designated drivers that they’ve also added some pretty tasty mocktails to the menu as well. I for one can’t wait to taste as I’m getting a little fed up with the usual soft drinks.
