Sleep is incredibly important for your health and mood. If you don’t sleep enough at night, there’s a good chance you feel stressed, anxious, irritable, or depressed. After many nights of poor sleep, you may begin to compromise your immune system and overall health. Though many today struggle to wind down at night, there are several easy ways, from riding electric bicycles to avoiding screens, to drastically improve your sleep.
Of course choosing the right bed is imperative too and can make such a dramatic different to your sleep. This is relevant for people of any age – whether its choosing the right bunkbeds for your kids or deciding on a new mattress for your king size bed (we did this and it made such a huge difference) this is a really important factor too. Plus all of these fab ways to ensure a good night’s sleep….
Avoid Alcohol, Tobacco, and Caffeine
Though some people swear that a cocktail or two a night puts them in the perfect state for sleep, simple biology says that this simply isn’t true. While alcohol can make you feel fatigued, your body needs to ramp up its processing to eliminate the toxic substance. This causes you to wake up in the middle of the night and sleep less soundly.
Tobacco and caffeine are both stimulants that can negatively affect your sleep cycle. Both make it harder to fall asleep and achieve the rest you need.
Reduce Your Exposure to Blue Light Devices
Your eyes signal that it’s time to sleep when the blue light in your environment is replaced by reddish, darker tones. When you sit up all night on a computer or tv, you’re telling your body to stay awake. Reduce electronics use before bed to rest more soundly.
Increase Your Light Exposure With A Bike Ride
Just like too much light at night is bad, too little light during the day is also. Most people spend much of their day indoors, where there isn’t much little ambient light. This is harmful because your body needs to know that it has done something in order to generate fatigue. You should always, therefore, try to get outside at least once. Ride your electric tricycle for adults or beach cruiser for half an hour to an hour a day, and you’ll doze off like a baby.
Regulate Your Sleep With Physical Activity
Physical exercise is good for pretty much every condition. Exercising reduces stress, strengthens your immune system, and makes you stronger. If you find lifting weights at the gym to be oppressively boring, try taking a martial arts or yoga class. Biking is a fantastic form of exercise because it allows you to get outside, travel where you need to go, and put as much or as little strain on your body as you want.
Meditate Regularly
A lot of people toss and turn in their beds at night because they can’t stop thinking about nagging problems and doubts. Meditation trains you to focus on the present, diminishing the effects of these stressors on your mental state. Try meditating for 10 to 20 minutes before bed every night and see if you notice an improvement. If you think you don’t have time for this, consider how much time you’ve spent watching videos or social media posts. Meditating for your health is a drop in the bucket.
If you’ve been struggling with sleep, biking is perhaps the single best solution to your bedtime woes. If you’re just starting, an ebike for women or men can help you manage your exertion and ramp up over time. Take charge of your mental health today.
